Helena, Ala., September 10, 2021 — Mspark has partnered with the Dear Jack Foundation (DJF) for the past five years with the goal of raising awareness and funds in support of adolescents and young adults who have been diagnosed with cancer and survived, as well as their care givers. The DJF’s annual Raise Your Voice Challenge raises funds to support its programs. This year, Mspark associates have raised almost $30,000 in support of the DJF so far.
After hosting a virtual event during the pandemic in 2020, we were excited to safely gather and hold our fifth annual Dear Jack Day fundraiser back at our home office, in Helena, Alabama, as part of the Raise Your Voice $250K Challenge this year. Last week’s event even featured a visit from DJF Executive Director Andrea Schwartz, DJF Director of Marketing & Communications Brett Gnadt, and DJF Founder Andrew McMahon. Andrew is also a 12-year leukemia survivor, pianist, front man, and singer-songwriter for the band Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, and formerly of Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate.
Last week’s event offered Mspark team members opportunities to participate safely in fun activities and win prizes throughout the day for a donation to DJF. These included a “Total Meltdown” obstacle competition where participants competed against the machine to be the “last man standing” for a $500 cash prize; a balloon pop-off to find prizes hidden inside balloons; a cash raffle drawing and silent auction benefitting the DJF. The afternoon kicked off with lunch followed by an in-person concert from Andrew McMahon in our warehouse, which was also livestreamed for associates who could not join in person. The fun then moved to a local bowling alley where 12 teams of Mspark associates competed for bragging rights. There were some very creative team names and festive costumes, including “2 Legit to Split,” “The Bushwackers,” and “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gutter,” to name a few.
After the events concluded and the fundraising total of nearly $30,000 was announced, Andrea Schwartz expressed gratitude and appreciation from the DJF team. “We are so humbled that you have adopted Dear Jack as your charity, and we appreciate the way you are champions of our mission not just on Dear Jack Day but every day! Your support truly has a positive impact on the lives of the young adult cancer patients, survivors, and their families that we serve through our programs.”
Mspark CEO Steve Mitzel, who also serves as Chair of the DJF Board, echoed his appreciation to the Mspark team, who enthusiastically support this event every year. “I am continually amazed by how passionate our team is about incorporating the Dear Jack Foundation into our corporate family. This week’s events were incredible and more importantly, we raised significant funds to help AYA cancer patients, survivors, and their caregivers! I am truly inspired by our teams’ generosity and kindness to support this amazing cause.”
